Special Services Department

Students with exceptional needs are integrated into the total educational environment at Spring Valley High School. Depending on their specific physical disabilities, learning styles, and intellectual abilities, these students are enrolled in courses from honors to the self-contained profound classroom. After high school, they transition into colleges, tech schools, the workforce and other facilities. A well-trained and experienced staff of special educators, teaching assistants, and a transition specialist serve the educational concerns of students with exceptional needs at Spring Valley High School. To further foster and enhance developmental growth, students can receive related services of speech, language therapy, occupational therapy, and/or physical therapy as indicated on each student's Individualized Educational Plan ( IEPs ). Additionally, there are itinerant specialists to assist students with hearing and visual impairments. Self-contained students with severe physical challenges receive a specially designed physical education program geared to accommodate their individual needs.
