The TCK Club is a
gathering place for Summit Parkway TCK's, or “Third Culture Kids”, along
with anyone else interested in learning about different cultures.
A TCK is someone who has spent significant time in a culture other than
the one they or their parents were born in. TCK’s may include children
of military personnel, international business people, other workers, or
students. They include both American children who have lived abroad and
children who are from, or whose parents are from, another culture and
are now living in the United States.

 |
Why
have a TCK Club? Because TCK’s often share in common the experience of having lived in
another culture. They often feel they are neither one culture nor the
other, but a mix of both - a “third culture”. This can be both exciting
and confusing, and TCK’s may feel alone, as if they are the only one
experiencing this confusion. |

The purpose of Summit Parkway’s TCK
Club
(1) To encourage friendships and understanding among
TCK students and help TCK's (who may feel isolated) recognize the power
of their experiences and that they are not alone.
(2) To learn about other countries and cultures.
(3) To make the world a better place through
student-chosen service projects, especially those focusing on needs in
other countries and cultures.

| Our first service project of 2006-2007 was to
finish decorating some "Happy Hats" to donate to local children
undergoing chemotherapy. We are also planning a time to share
different holiday traditions around the world, and are looking forward
to a field trip to Columbia's International Festival in March.

We
meet twice a month on Tuesdays from 2:35 to 3:30, usually in Room 303. |
