| Columbia, SC: The Richland Northeast High School GAP Choir won first place in the
Black Music Caucus's School Gospel Choir Competition on March 31 in Brooklyn, NY. In
addition, the choir won 9 of the 17 trophies awarded for Best Choral Attire, Best
Choreography, Best Processional, Best Grand Processional, Best Accompaniment, Best Gospel
Selection, Best Soprano Soloist (Jayna Martin), Best Alto Soloist (Alexis Edwards), and
Best Student Director (Rickey Johnson). This is the third year that the three-year-old group has entered this national competition, and the third year it has won major awards. Members are Joy Allison, LaQunya Baker, Shanika Bethel, Jeannine Buchanan, ChariseBurgess, Ashley Chatman, Trenton Cokley, Taadamika Crump, Marissa DeBramaletta, Andre Delaine, Lakeisha Durant, Alexis Edwards, Maya Evans, Ashleigh Ford, Victoria Gadson, Antwon Gleaton, Marissa Glover, Tylone' Hawkins, Channing Holmes, Tiffany Hope, Fatisha Hudson, Tiffany Hughes, Jerome Johnson, Rickey Johnson, Jameson Jolly, Josh Jones, Kendra Josey, Carrie Kenny, Shaina Lemon, D'Erica Mack, Shari Mack, Ashley Martin, Jayna Martin, Bruce McLamore, Isaac Moore, Teonica Murphy, Katherine Nash, Kristina Nash, Adrionna Oree, Gabrielle Player, Corina Porter, LaShawn Rembert, Devia Robinson, Kalen Robinson, Chantal Simon, Christden Starks, John Sumpter, Jomonica Taylor, La'Mya Thompson, Brittany Tyler, Whitney Tyler, Tariq Walker, Jasimen Williams, and Samantha Williams. The group's advisor is RNE science teacher Joyce Abel. "We're very proud of our GAP Choir and all they've achieved," said Ralph Schmidt, RNE's principal.
