Seven RNE students qualify for All-State Orchestra, two make All-State Band

Columbia, SC: Richland Northeast High School orchestra students A. J. Brannum, Emily Bracey (viola), Daniel Cone (viola). Sam Disharoon, Chelsea Eversmann, Morgan Lovit (bass), and Diane Oliva (violin) have all qualified for the All-State Orchestra. In addition, band students Greer Thaus and Stanley Perry were named to the All-State Band.

"Last year we had five students in the All State Orchestra," said Jose Carrion, head of the Orchestra Program. "This year we have seven. That's a good indication of our program's growth."

The All-State Orchestra is a project of the Orchestra Division of the South Carolina Music Educators Association. Audition requirements include ability to play major and minor scales in two octaves as well as sightreading of a brief musical passage and solo performance of an audition piece.

Of RNE's two new All-State Band members, Greer, a freshman, was named fifth best clarinet player in the state among 9th and 10th graders, and Perry, a senior, was name best among the South Carolina's baritone saxophone players. This is the second time Perry has won this award.

The school's new All-Region Band members are Megan Brown (flute), Khrystyan Edens (flute), Adreinne Friday (flute), Tysena Richmond (clarinet), Alphono Counts (alto saxophone), Hamilton Grant (trombone), Robert Squirewell (trombone), Morgan Lovit (bass), Barry Brown (alto sax), Connor Burney (trombone), Chelsea Eversmart (bass), and Caleb Brown (snare drum).
