Kelly Mill Middle Library Media Center Program • The Media Center will provide intellectual and physical access to information. • The Media Center will integrate the library media program into the curriculum through collaboration among all members of the school community—teachers, students, parents, and administrators and thus function as the information center of the school. • The Media Center will provide age/developmentally appropriate resources and learning activities that represent a diversity of experiences, opinions, social and cultural perspectives, supporting the concept that intellectual freedom and access to information are prerequisite to effective and responsible citizenship in a democracy. • The Media Center will provide a central core of print and non-print information to enhance the curriculum, promote recreational reading, and will emphasize the significance of utilizing networks and other current technology to search for information. • The Media Center staff will maintain an environment which is conducive to learning and reading. • The Media Center will provide learning experiences that encourage users to become discriminating consumers and skilled creators of information. • The Media Center will use collaboration as a bridge for providing leadership, instruction, and consulting assistance in the use of instructional and information technology. • The Media Center will provide resources and activities that contribute to lifelong learning. • The Media Center will provide an information network for the school. • The Media Center will provide opportunities for collaboration between the library media specialist and classroom teachers to incorporate information literacy into instruction.
