ITI

Kelly Mill Middle School is a unique school. Instruction is centered on the Integrated Thematic Instruction model (ITI) that uses brain-based research. Faculty members and staff use current brain research on how the brain learns to help teach more effectively. The ITI model brings together three overlapping categories that are critical for learning: (1) the biology of learning; (2) proven instructional strategies; and (3) curriculum development that leads to responsible citizenship. Understanding that learning depends on a “body-brain partnership,” we use new strategies to create and to advance a community of learners by implementing lifelong guidelines and LIFESKILLS for all.

    Lifelong Guidelines:
  • Trustworthiness
  • Truthfulness
  • Active Listening
  • No Put-Downs
  • Personal Best
LIFESKILLS:

The ITI model improves the quality of teaching and ultimately increase your student’s academic performance. Faculty, staff and students follow, practice and model the five lifelong guidelines for behavior expectations in the learning environment:

Trustworthiness-To act in manner that makes one worthy of trust and confidence
Truthfulness-To be honest about things and feelings with oneself and others
Active Listening-To listen with the intention of understanding what the speaker intends to communicate
No Put-Downs-To never use words, actions and/or body language that degrade, humiliate, or dishonor others
Personal Best-To do one’s best given the circumstances and available resources

We also introduce, model and practice the 18 LIFESKILLS above as defined by the fifth lifelong guideline, personal best.”
