MUSIC

The music curriculum in Richland School District Two complies with the discipline-based South Carolina Framework for Music Education. Recognizing that musical potential is a basic ability, the school has an obligation to nourish interest and talent through exposure to a broad array of learning experiences.

The South Carolina Framework for music is followed in teaching children concepts and other areas of music. The students are taught to read music, play instruments, sing appropriately with the music, and do creative movement.

Students are taught through sequential learning activities that consist of objectives and goals set by the teacher. Students are also given the opportunity to use their creativity in the lessons.

Throughout the year all of the students have the opportunity to perform for their parents in school programs.

In the music classroom there is a Yamaha Clavinova that is MIDI compatible. The computer in the music room has the Finale music software program installed on it. This enables the students to compose music and hear what they composed and will help reinforce what they learned from the music lessons.
