VISUAL ARTS

BHE artists are encouraged to use their imaginations to develop personal discipline and to find multiple solutions to problems. Students learn to respond to events and experiences with confidence and to communicate their feelings and viewpoints through appropriate creative outlets. Content standards are based on the four fundamental components of Disciplined Based Art Education (DBAE).

CREATIVE EXPRESSION: The ability to develop, organize, and interpret ideas for expression in the production of art forms that involve analysis and problem solving.

AESTHETIC PERCEPTION: The ability to understand and respond to ideas and experiences; to be aware of beauty and the unique characteristics of natural and built environments; and to make informed judgements about the meaning in works of art.

HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL PERCEPTION: The ability to recognize and appreciate the visual arts as a form of individual and cultural expression and to appreciate the basic aspects of past history and human experience.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS: The ability to interpret and analyze works of art and to arrive at reasoned judgements based on sufficient and appropriate criteria, such as quality, impact, purpose and value.
