Bethel-Hanberry students and staff have many opportunities to write. Students keep writing journals to record their thoughts and ideas They are the authors of everything from book reports to poetry.  Their writing includes research papers, brochures  and even autobiographies!

BHE students use a writing process which involves prewriting, writing a first draft, sharing/conferencing and publishing.  During writing conferences students learn to edit and revise their works.  Teachers and students assess writing using the  South Carolina extended response scoring rubric. The writing traits included in this model are CONTENT/DEVELOPMENT, ORGANIZATION, VOICE, and CONVENTIONS.
