Standard 1: Demonstrate basic gross and fine motor development

Benchmark 1.1  Move through an environment with body control and balance
Benchmark 1.2 Perform a variety of locomotor skills with control and balance
Benchmark 1.3 Perform a variety of non-locomotor skills with control and balance
Benchmark 1.4  Combine a sequence of several motor skills with control and balance
Benchmark 1.5 Perform fine motor tasks using eye-hand coordination

Physical Development Standard I: Demonstrates basic gross and fine motor development

Benchmark 1.1 Moves through an environment with body control and balance

Developmental Continuum

·        Demonstrates body spatial awareness in relationship to stationary objects

·        Walks and runs with skill

·        Uses quick stops or changes in direction to avoid contact with moving objects or other people

Example Behaviors

While running around the playground, Henry and Mike dodge avoid running into a basketball goal

David walked across the balance beam without falling

As Vicky runs toward the swings, she stops abruptly when Ayana rides her bike in her path

Developmental Continuum

·        Walks, runs, climbs, jumps and hops with increased coordination, balance and control

·        Experiments with galloping and skipping

Example Behaviors

Matthew hops through the obstacle course form hoop to hoop.  He says, “I didn’t miss a hoop this time”.

Benchmark 1.4 Combines a sequence of several motor skills with control and balance

Developmental Continuum

·        Walks up and down stairs with alternating steps

·        Explores a variety of movements

Example Behaviors

When Rikki climbs up the ladder on the slide, the teacher observes that she uses alternating steps
