Health Services
Connie Taylor,is the district nurse on staff.
   Nursing Services are provided at Spears Creek Road Child Development through the Special Services Department of Richland School District Two.  

Nursing Services Include:

  • Assess students for illness and/or injury
  • Assist parents in obtaining necessary medical services for their children
  • Participate in IAT and IEP meetings
  • Monitor immunizations to make sure our schools are in compliance with DHEC regulations
  • Provide training for health room assistants and other staff members who are on the emergency response teams
  • Provide OSHA training for faculty and staff members to make sure we are in compliance with regulations
  • Teach classes on managing asthma, good dental health, good handwashing techniques, and human growth and development
  • Recommend referrals to various community services for those with no insurance.

 

Immunization Requirements for School and Day Car, 2009-10

Day Care Attendance:

Four doses of any combination of DTP, DT, DTP-Hib or DTaP vaccine.

Three dose of any combination of oral or inactivate Polio Vaccine.

Three doses of Hepatitis B vaccine.

Current, age-appropriate Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugate vaccination according the the currently published immunization schedule.

Current, age-appropriate Pneumococcal vaccination according to the currently published immunization schedule.

The following are required to be received on or after the first birthday:

  • One dose of Rubeola (Measles) vaccine
  • One dose of Rubella (German Measles) vaccine
  • One dose of Mumps vaccine
  • One dose of Varicella (Chickenpox)

School Immunization Requirements

Varicella Vaccine:  Two doses are required for unimmunized children aged 13 and older or positive history for the students admitted to 5K through 8th grade.

Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis:  4 doses with at least one(1) dose received after the fourth birthday for students admitted to 5K through 4th grade. Students enrolled in grades 5 through12 met the rerequirement as stated for the school year in which they entered school.

 

Hand Washing is an important part of the pre-school program in order to teach and practice good health habits.

The program follows these practices for children and adults. Hand washing occurs:

  • on arrival for the day
  • after using the toilet
  • after handling body fluids (e.g., blowing or wiping the nose, coughing on a hand, or touching any mucus, blood or vomit)
  • before meals and snacks, before preparing or serving food, or after handling any raw food that requires cooking (e.g., meat, eggs, poultry)
  • after playing in water that is shared by two or more people
  • after handling pets and other animals or any material such as sand, dirt, or surfaces that might be contaminated by contact with animals

 

   Children in out-of-home childcare settings, children in grades K3, K4, and K5 and medically fragile school students in grades 1-12 with the following conditions must be excluded from attendance:
